The plan here is to get a lot of the site wrapped up today…(read: all of it) so I can kick back tomorrow (sunday). I desperately require a day off this week to just veg.
SO I’m up and at it early this morning. It’s 8:45 am, and i’ve already submitted the site, it’s rss feed, and sitemap to:
Google
MSN Live
Acoona
Yahoo
Jayde
and most importantly…dmoz.org
If you don’t know, dmoz.org is the very user friendly face of the ODP or Open Directory Project. In my opinion the ODP is probably one of, if not THE most useful tool when promoting your site. The ODP is a volunteer maintained directory of internet links and page information that basically feeds all the main search engines. All the sites that you see that say “I’ll submit your site to 200 search engines for $99.95!!!” are just entering your information right here. The ODP has been up since 1998 logging information about websites, and probably have quite a few editors. There was apparently an issue over the use of the name originally and how the project was being presented, but it appears that by that time, the ODP was huge.
The point is, while submitting to each individual search engine is also not a bad idea, do NOT forget the ODP when getting a site rolling.
Also signed up with blogcarnival.com.
I did a quick look at traffic on analytics…had no idea there would be anything at all, there was actually minor traffic in the last couple days from my efforts ![]()
