I hear and read this question almost daily. People want to start a website or a blog, they want a domain, but they have no money, OR they don’t want to risk anything at all on starting an online venture. It’s not a bad idea to get into any kind of venture with nothing at risk, though it doesn’t happen all that often, there just arent that many viable opportunities out there that require absolutely no risk.
However, setting up a domain or blog that can make you some money, that very well IS a venture that one can enter into and have absolutely nothing invested, yet turn around and make a fair amount of money doing. How is this possible? you may ask. Well I will show you.
There is something that you need to understand before you start this process. If you want to make any kind of regular and repeat revenue (:)) from an online venture, you have to Brand yourself. You need your own distinct name, or in the case of the internet your own distinct domain name. You can get a free blog at sites like blogger.net or wordpress and they will host it for you. However, you will not have your own distinct brand, you will be under the ‘umbrella’ of those domains. You want your own name, so therefore you need a domain. Domain’s cost money, though not a lot. But our focus here is to do this totally free.
There is an old saying that you have to spend money to make money. That saying is very true. However, in this example, while we still are going to spend money, we’re not going to spend OUR money. I’ll show you how to make money from different sources on the internet, totally free, totally legitimate.
Cashcrate.com is a site for signing up for surveys. Yes, I know what you’re thinking ‘not a survey site’, yep, a survey site. I’ve actually used this place just to test it out, they actually do pay. I sat down one day and figured it out. If you just sit and go through offer after offer, you’ll make around $20 an hour. There is around $120 in offers that are totally free. Technically there are more offers than that available that are free, though they do come with weird caveats such as you have to get a loan, cash advance, or give your cell number. That is where I draw the line. First go to Hotmail.com, or any of the other free email services out there and start up a free account. This is the email you will use to sign up to cashcrate.com with and also use when you are filling out the offers. You are doing this because if you give them your regular email address, it will take about 1 day before you are getting 100-200 emails a day full of marketing from sites hooked to those offers and sites that buy your info from those sites that are providing the offers.
I filled out only the offers that required nothing more than an email address. Many of them require a regular address and cellphone number as well. I filled out the offers without giving my actual address or cell phone number just because I dont want the avalanche of email in my mailbox or dorks calling my cellphone at all hours of the night telling me about their great offers for viagra.
You must complete the offers before the 20th of the month to get paid for them. I would highly suggest getting the offers done around the end of the first week of the month, because the sites have to ok your information before they sign off on paying for your information, and you getting paid by cashcrate. Your check will come to you in about 30 days.
So, fast forward to 30 days, and your check arrives. Like I said, I personally tried the cashcrate.com service, and yes, it actually does pay out, and the checks actually will cash.
So you have your check for $110. Now we need a host. I personally use dreamhost. I have used DH for over 2 years now, and rarely do I have any kind of problem with downtime or any other issues. Their standard base package is $7.95 per month, but they are always running some kind of special offer or pretty crazy deal. As of this writing, this is their current offer

That’s pretty good to start with. You can upgrade that any time you want. But here’s the best part…free stuff. Dreamhost offers ‘one touch installs’. A couple that will interest most people is ZenCart and Wordpress. Most in the blog world know what Wordpress is. ZenCart is an e-commerce site that is very simple to set up and if you have something to sell but need a storefront, ZenCart will probably fit the bill. There are other onetouch installs that are available on the DreamHost service that could be used in many clever ways, but let’s not get too tricky here.
Now a domain name is needed. I would suggest taking a bit of time with picking your domain name. It should be something as short as possible, while still describing your site, and the name should be something that is in line with whatever your site is about. Once you have decided on that name, you need to buy it. I would advise against buying your domain name through your host. Many hosts offer this service, and while it is great for convience I have seen more than a few people that bought their domain through their host, the host has some kind of trouble down the road and goes down and then they are stuck trying to get the domain back just so they can move it to another host. I would highly suggest buying your domain through some place like Godaddy.com. I just purchased another domain name so I know what the prices are at the moment. For my domain name, in the .com domain with registering privacy was $19.95.
So, here’s a quick synopsis of what has been done so far
1. - go to Hotmail.com and set up a free email address
2. - Go to Cashcrate.com and sign up an account. Fill out only the free offers, using the hotmail address when requested.
3. - Secure a host such as Dreamhost, make sure that the host has free features such as wordpress and zencart or similar products.
4. - Select and purchase a domain name from a seller like Godaddy.com.
Money from cashcrate - $110.00
Dreamhost - $ 5.95
Domain name - $ 19.95
Remaining - $ 84.10
So doing this, you have a host, domain and either a blog or e-commerce storefront plus $84 bucks in your hand. Next, what to do with that $84 bucks?
